Joe McDonald commits to GW

Joe McDonald became the fourth recruit to commit to joining the Colonials on the court next year, Paul Tenorio of The Washington Post tweeted tonight.

McDonald is a 6-foot-1, 190 pound point guard from Lorton, Va. who currently plays for the Landon School in Bethesda, Md. ESPN.com gives him a scouts’ ranking of 84 and two stars, saying that he is a “true point guard that has a great understanding of his position” and “advances passes on the break and is very unselfish.” Also reported to be in contention for McDonald were Notre Dame, Virginia and VCU.

On The Washington Post’s Jan. 16 All-Met Watch, McDonald was named to the All-Met First Team after he posted 23 points and 11 rebounds in loss to Episcopal and scored 21 points and 14 rebounds in a 66-57 win over Georgetown Prep.

McDonald rounds out the 2012 recruiting class, the first of head coach Mike Lonergan’s career at GW, that includes point guard Kethan Savage, forward Kyprianos Maragkos and forward Patricio Garino.

This article was updated on April 11, 2012 to reflect the following:

The Hatchet incorrectly spelled Kyprianos Maragkos’ name as Kyprianos Maragakos.
