The Troubadours, a student-run a capella group, will be performing at tonight’s presidential debate held at the DAR Constitution Hall at 8 p.m., the group announced Monday.
Of the group’s 20 members, 16 will attend the debate to perform two half-hour sets during the pre-show.
The event – hosted by the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute – will be broadcast on CNN.
The Troubadours’ business manager Sam Smith, a senior and a Hatchet columnist, said CNN producer Josh Rubin told the group about the opportunity to perform last week. Rubin is a 2000 alumnus and former president of the Troubadours.
“The Troubadours are incredibly excited to be able to share our music with members of the D.C. and political community at large,” Smith said. “It is an incredible honor to have been asked to perform at such a prestigious and historic event.”
Smith said tonight’s audience will be one of the largest and most prominent The Troubadours has seen.
“There’s a chance we’ll be performing for the next president of the United States, and that’s something we’re all excited about, party affiliation notwithstanding,” Smith said.
