Women’s basketball head coach Mike Bozeman announced yesterday that four players have signed National Letters of Intent to join GW on the court next season.

Anjaleace White, 6-foot-2 center from Newark, Del., Dalacy Anderson, 6-foot-2 forward from Bolingbrook, Ill., Aaliyah Brown, 5-foot-8 guard from League City, Texas, and Alexis Chandler, 5-foot-9 guard from Cypress, Texas, will all don Colonial uniforms for the 2012-2013 season.

“This class addresses every need that we, as a program, will have next season,” Bozeman said. “All of these girls are proven winners and they will improve the overall talent of the team to the necessary level that will allow us to compete nationally.”

White averaged 11.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 1.8 steals as a junior at the Sanford School. She helped guide Sanford to consecutive Delaware state championships in her sophomore and junior seasons and is ranked the 20th best post player by ESPN HoopGurlz.

“Anjaleace is coming off of back-to-back state championships at the Sanford School,” said Bozeman. “She has played and excelled with the top competition in the country and is clearly a top-level player with an upside greater than what she has already produced.”

Anderson is top-ranked forward in the state of Illinois by Max Preps and the 34th-ranked forward in the nation by ESPN HoopGurlz. She helped Bolingbrook High School to three straight Illinois Class 4A state championships, including the 2010-11 season where Bolingbrook finished 29-2 overall and ranked No. 2 in the ESPNHS Powerade Fab 50 team rankings.

“Dalacy is the top-ranked forward in Illinois and was very successful in her scholastic career,” Bozeman said.  “She will bring a winning mentality to the program as well as exceptional athleticism and versatility. She is multi-talented in that she can produce from both the three and four positions.”

Brown averaged 12.2 points, 4.7 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals as a junior at Clear Springs High School. She earned First Team All-District 24-4A honors, and was named the District’s Defensive Player of the Year. Named a three-star recruit by ESPN HoopGurlz, Brown was also a First Team All-District selection as a sophomore and Second Team as a freshman. She is rated 60th on the ESPN HoopGurlz rankings of the nation’s top guard prospects.

“Aaliyah is an exceptional basketball player with eye-popping athleticism. That alone makes her an exceptional recruit, but her basketball IQ is icing on the cake,” Bozeman said. “She is a very gifted player and is going to play a key role in our backcourt in the future.”

Chandler earned First Team All-District 3-5A accolades at St. Pius X High School as a junior last season, averaging 10.5 points, 8.9 assists, 5.5 steals and 4.3 rebounds for a SPX Lady Panthers team that posted a 32-4 overall record and 10-1 mark in league play. As a sophomore, she competed for Cypress Ranch High School in League City, Texas, earning Honorable Mention All-District 15-5A accolades after averaging 8.3 points and 4.2 rebounds. This year, Chandler will take to the court for Houston’s Cy-Fair High School.

“Alexis is an outstanding point guard with the body of a small forward,” Bozeman said.  “The general consensus is to play her out of position, but she is a true point guard with outstanding court vision and ability to run a Division I offense. Her strengths will enable her to compete with the best point guards both in the Atlantic 10 and in the nation.”

The four new recruits will look to answer the departures of this year’s Colonial senior class: center Sara Mostafa, forward Tara Booker, guard Tiana Myers and guard Kristin Aldridge.
