GW recognized as top four-year college for veterans

GW was deemed the nation’s No. 16 most military-friendly college by a monthly publication about educational opportunities for veterans.

Military Times EDGE considers academic programs, support services and campus life in its annual ranking. Concord University in West Virginia topped this year’s list.

GW was one of eight private universities mentioned in 57-school list. Wright State University in Ohio, Western Kentucky University and Evergreen State College in Washington share the No. 16 spot with GW.

The University was recognized for its participation in the national Yellow Ribbon Program and its veterans office. GW touted the highest graduation rate with 81 percent of students completing their programs within 150 percent of the four-year timeline.

GW’s partnership with the federal financial aid program launched in 2009 – the same time the University added a new staff position dedicated to veterans affairs – in an effort to provide greater support to student veterans.

For the first time this year, the magazine’s ranked colleges in three categories: four year, two year and distance and nontraditional programs. Last year, the magazine ranked the University as the 21st best college for veterans out of more than 100 schools.
