The Colonials walked off the field with a 3-0 victory over A-10 rival St. Bonaventure Friday, but lost one of their leading offensive players to injury.

While the men’s soccer team clinched a spot in the A-10 conference tournament on Friday, GW’s chances of winning the A-10 championship took a setback when junior forward Seth Rudolph had to be helped off the field with 22 minutes left to play in the match. Lidster did not specify on the injury, but indicated that Rudolph would be out of the lineup Sunday against Duquesne, adding that “it doesn’t look good.”

“The win was massive today,” head coach George Lidster said. “You never know what happens with injury. We have to scrape together 11 players for Sunday.”

Rudolph, who was the catalyst for GW’s first goal, went down in pain after a collision in the opposing goal box. He dropped to his hands and knees almost immediately after the incident as the training staff rushed onto the field. Rudolph was helped by teammates to the locker room, appearing to have sustained an injury to his right leg.

Rudolph is one of the top offensive performers for the Colonials, entering today’s match with eight goals. With senior teammate Yoni Berhanu, he consistently formed one of the top two scoring duos in the league this season. Friday, Rudolph helped set up the Colonials first goal, when a cross from midfield found Rudolph sprinting towards the net. The opposing goalkeeper slide tackled Rudolph, who was awarded a yellow card, setting up a penalty kick and Berhanu converted on the penalty attempt for his eigth goal of the season.

GW held on to win 3-0, George Lidster’s 199th career victory as a Colonial. The Colonials take on Duquesne on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon Field, the final regular season match of the season. The match will be Lidster’s final regular season game of his career, and is a chance to earn the retiring head coach his 200th career victory at GW.
