Former men’s tennis powerhouse and 1979 graduate Dave Haggerty will be inducted into the United States Tennis Association Middle States Hall of Fame Oct. 22 as one of four inductees this year.

Haggerty, a member of the GW athletic hall of fame, was a four-year letterwinner for the Colonials from 1975 to 1979. He started at the No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles spots as a freshman, working his way up to No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the next three seasons. Over his three years as the top seed, Haggerty was chosen as the team’s most valuable player.

During his career as a Colonial, Haggerty earned an overall singles record of 84-26 and a career doubles record of 98-12. His most successful year with GW was his senior season, when he went 23-5 in singles and 26-2 in doubles play, winning the All-Metro championship for the fourth year in a row.

Haggerty has worked in the professional tennis industry for more than 25 years. He joined Head Racquet Sports in 1998, and has been the company’s CEO of Head USA of Norwalk, Conn., with responsibility for racquet sports, winter sports and diving divisions for the United States, since 2002. Hafferty also serves as president of Penn Racquet Sports.

He was elected to a two-year termĀ as vice president on the USTA Board of Directors in January 2009 , and is also active in the International Tennis Federation Women’s Circuit Committee.
