Redshirt sophomore center Daymon Warren has been granted a transfer release from the men’s basketball program, the Department of Athletics announced today.

Warren is the third member of last year’s Colonials to request a release from the team, after then-sophomore guard Tim Johnson and then-freshman forward Chris Fitzgerald were released in March. It’s also the second departure of a center from the team after Joseph Katuka’s graduation last year.

Warren was redshirted for the 2009 to 2010 season after being sidelined with a fracture in his right hand. He averaged 0.7 points and 2.0 rebounds in 24 games for GW last season, posting season-highs of four points against St. Bonaventure  Jan. 22, 2011, and eight rebounds over Howard Jan. 2, 2011. The Richmond, Calif, native didn’t start any games for the Colonials, and averaged just 7.3 minutes per game.

Warren did not immediately return a request for comment and head coach Mike Lonergan declined to comment on the release.
