Profile on Style is a weekly post that explores the motivations behind GW’s fashion trends. We’ll show you the most interesting aspects of GW style, and then try to make some sense of it all. Keep your eyes open for a reporter and photographer walking around because you might become the latest trendsetter.

Name: Mira Bhatia
Major: International business and marketing
Year: 2012

Senior Mira Bhatia proves that style is not defined by where it’s from but rather by how you wear it. Here, she is seen wearing a simple black racerback tank tucked into a safari-esque, moss green linen skirt. She pairs this classic look with all kinds of accessories, which range from second-hand to designer. Most notably is a gorgeous leather bag from India that is not only unique, but a part of her culture.

Nina Zafar. Photo by Jordan Emont | Assistant Photo Editor

Name: Nina Zafar
Major: Middle Eastern studies
Year: 2013
Hometown: Boston
Inspiration: The urban-chic style of Free People and Urban Outfitters
Clothes: Dress, Anthropologie; bag, T.J.Maxx; sandals, T.J.Maxx; necklace, purchased in Iran

Perhaps thrift stores are not as accessible where you’re from, but you would still like to shop for things at a good value. An alternative would be to hit the discount stores such as T.J.Maxx, Marshalls or Filene’s Basement. Nina Zafar is seen wearing a strapless dress with stripes of different patterns, with red and yellow background colors, which work for the pre-fall season. Her bag and sandals compliment the colors of her dress and definitely help define her style as urban-chic.
