Lonergan confirms Armwood transfer

Isaiah Armwood officially became the newest member of the Colonials today, when men’s basketball head coach Mike Lonergan officially confirmed his previously reported transfer.

Armwood will take to the sidelines for GW after spending the last two seasons with Villanova. Per NCAA transfer requirements, he will have to sit out the upcoming season, but has two years of eligibility remaining.

“It’s a brand new start,” Armwood said. “It was a hard decision [to transfer], but it was the best decision for me. I look forward to working with my teammates and coaches and helping the team as much as possible.”

The Baltimore-native averaged 2.4 points on 48.1 percent shooting, 2.9 rebounds, 0.6 blocks, and 14.2 minutes over 61 games during two seasons with Villanova. Last season,  Armwood started eight of the 32 games he played for the Wildcats, averaging 2.5 points and 3.6 rebounds.

“Isaiah will be a great addition to our program,” Lonergan said. “Although he won’t be able to play for us this season, his experience, leadership and work ethic in practice will be very beneficial to our team.”
