Former Colonials pitcher Tommy Gately  signed a professional contract with the Windy City Thunderbolts late last week.

The Thunderbolts are members of the 12-team Frontier League, a professional, independent baseball organization based in Sauget, Ill.

Gately, a 2011 graduate, will face two former teammates in the Frontier League: 2010 graduates Tom Zebroski and Chris Luick, who play for the Traverse City Beach Bums and Lake Erie Crushers, respectively.

Gately led the Colonials with six victories during the 2011 season and ranked second on the team with 84 strikeouts. His most impressive outing came in his complete game April 30 against Dayton, where he propelled GW to a 5-1 win over the A-10 opponent, allowing just three hits and striking out a career-high nine batters.

Gately appeared in 47 games during his career as a Colonial, earning 123 strikeouts in 130.2 innings and making 15 starts.
