Profile on Style: Summer Sun

Profile on Style is a weekly post that explores the motivations behind GW’s fashion trends. We’ll show you the most interesting aspects of GW style, and then try to make some sense of it all. Keep your eyes open for a reporter and photographer walking around because you might become the latest trendsetter…or trendkiller.

It’s finally that time of year again! We can remove the layers of clothing that kept us warm during the winter and let the sun take over. Alexandra Cerquone was spotted in Kogan Plaza enjoying the beautiful weather with her friends wearing a faux-denim waist banded skirt with a white spaghetti tank tucked in. The faux-denim appearance is a change from the solid-color skirts we usually see. Small ruffles at the top of the skirt give it added shape and help the skirt flow in the wind for a summer breeze look. She pairs her outfit with light brown Burberry flats and an adorable Valentino headband to match. To protect her eyes from the sun, she has her YSL glasses in hand – adding that extra little glam to her outfit.

Clothes: Sandals, Target; Skirt, J.Crew; Blouse, Banana Republic; Necklace, Tiffany’s
With the stress of finals, fashion often becomes the last thing students care about. Casey James was spotted sitting outside Gelman looking fashionable despite having other things to worry about. She was wearing a white V-neck top with a white belt tied into a ribbon. Her navy blue, almost pencil, mini skirt has cute details such as pockets and matching buttons that blend in with the rest of the skirt. Her shirt is tucked in, which helps accentuate her waist.

Clothes: Sunglasses, CVS; Dress, Mustard Seed; Bikini top, H&M; Sandals, Steve Madden; Rings, Eastern Market
Meredith Zoltick was spotted in University Yard, sitting under the shade with her friend. Shown here, everything Zoltick is wearing has its own story behind it. She is wearing a beautiful purple ankle-length strapless dress that has decorative patterns on the edges. The dress was found at a thrift store in Maryland, but the colors are vibrant and perfect for summer. She pairs this dress with black-strapped sandals and a simple pair of black sunglasses. Her gray bag is almost 10 years old, but she makes it unique by including a red pin that she got from India. Her rings each have a story of their own as well, as some were from Eastern Market, one was given to her by her grandmother and another was a high school ring. It’s always good to add character to an outfit by wearing items that are of significance, plus they can be great conversation pieces.
