Profile on Style: April Showers

Profile on Style is a weekly post that explores the motivations behind GW’s fashion trends. We’ll show you the most interesting aspects of GW style, and then try to make some sense of it all. Keep your eyes open for a reporter and photographer walking around because you might become the latest trendsetter…or trendkiller.

Name: Alison Tierney
Major: American Studies
Inspired by: Friends and mom
Clothes: Blouse: Urban Outiftters, Jeans: Urban Outfitters, Boots: Ralph Lauren, Belt: Tag Sale, Bag: Dooney and Bourke

Alison Tierney is ready to graduate into the real world with her “casual but relatively formal” style. Here she is wearing a sheer blouse in a soft light pink, the material of which makes for a delicate and feminine look. A perfect choice for the springtime, she tucks her blouse into her jeans to give her outfit a touch of formality. To complete the outfit she is wearing a taupe colored belt with a larger buckle, a good way to sneak in some extra shape and draw attention to the waist. Her knee-high brown leather boots not only protect her from the weather but also complement the outfit well with their simple design.

Name: Alice Zhang
Major: Undecided
Inspired by: Her sister
Clothes: Shirt: Pacsun, Cardigan: American Eagle, Skirt: H&M, Tights: UNIQLO, Boots: Thrift, Bag: Urban Outfitters

DC weather and Alice Zhang both have something in common: they’re both spontaneous. It’s hard to predict shorts weather from pants weather nowadays, but Zhang does a good job of preparing for both. Zhang here wears a loosely fitted shirt with a peacock feather design. She tucks her shirt into a green skirt with a black band, emphasizing her waistline. Sheer black tights with thick, vertical stripes protect her legs. Her long-sleeve gray cardigan is loosely fitted and pairs nicely with the green of her skirt. She covers her feet with mid-calf light brown boots that lengthen her legs. A spontaneous look indeed, but very well coordinated. We can say that this look is spring with sprinkles of fall.

Name: Behnam Taleblu
Major: International affairs and Middle Eastern Studies
Clothes: Shirt: Nordstrom, Jacket: Nautica, Jeans: DKNY, Shoes: Adidas, Bag: Kenneth Cole Reaction, Glasses: Ray-Ban

Behnam Taleblu understands the value of a first impression. Taleblu goes for a “smart casual” look with each outfit he chooses. We spotted Taleblu wearing a sport jacket over a black button-down shirt. He pairs this with jeans to go for a more casual look and plain black and white Adidas shoes. His messenger bag gives his outfit a touch of professionalism, but not too much for a student heading to class. He of course is prepared for the spontaneous D.C. weather with a green umbrella in hand, and GW’s most important accessory: Starbucks (which just so happened to match his umbrella).
