Student found dead in City Hall

A male was found dead in City Hall Wednesday afternoon.

The Metropolitan Police Department, University police and medicals examiners responded to the scene after 2 p.m. and found a male student in his room, a University official, who was given anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record, said.

“I am deeply saddened to report that the university has been notified of the death of one of our students. The student was found in his room this afternoon at the City Hall residence hall,” University President Steven Knapp said.

“On behalf of the entire university community, I would like to express our sorrow and extend my condolences to the student’s family and friends. The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the student’s death in coordination with the GW Police Department. At this time, we have no indication that the death was the result of a criminal act. We will release more information when it becomes available,” Knapp said.

The Hatchet is withholding the student’s name until the University can notify the family.
