Men’s basketball unlikely to receive postseason invitation

With bids to the NCAA Tournament and the NIT already handed out earlier today, athletic director Jack Kvancz said Sunday night that he has not been contacted by any of the lesser postseason men’s basketball tournaments and added that it was unlikely that GW would accept a bid if offered one.

The Colonials, who finished in a fourth-place tie in the Atlantic 10 regular season, were upset in the first round of the conference tournament last Tuesday by Saint Joseph’s. GW, which finished in 10th place in the A-10 a season ago and lost at home in the first round of the College Basketball Invitational to Virginia Commonwealth, would need certain conditions to be met before it would be willing to accept a bit to either the CBI or the CollegeInsider.com Tournament, Kvancz said.

“I’d have to ask are we playing at home? Do we have any students? Are we on semester break? How much does it cost to play at home? I think those are all questions that have to be answered before you say yes,” Kvancz said. “And my feeling is that unless all the answers were in the affirmative to our satisfaction, why would I want to play?”
