Students rank high as Sporcle users

GW students may have a new excuse for all of those in-class distractions professors complain about.

The University inched up the rankings on Sporcle, a popular trivia quiz website created in 2007, moving from No. 23 last week to No. 16 for the week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 5.

Factors considered for top 25 ranking include the number of website visits per user, games played, page hits and average time spent on Sporcle. Registered users must list their school in their profile.

The University of Michigan safeguarded its first place spot in this week’s rankings, with Notre Dame University trailing behind in second place.

Sporcle initiated the college ranking system in the fall and releases new numbers every Tuesday morning, Sporcle’s Vice President of Products Derek Pharr said.

“We thought this would be really a good way to get more people engaged and really bring forward the [college] rivalry that exists and add something a little more fun to the site,” Pharr said.

GW is the only D.C. school that made the list.
