Alumna Kerry Washington was nominated for a NAACP Image Award for best actress for her role in “Night Catches Us.”

Other nominees in Washington’s category include Janet Jackson, Queen Latifah, Halle Berry, and Zoe Saldana. The winners will be announced at the national broadcast on Fox on March 4 at 8 p.m.

Washington pursued a self-designed major in the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences while at GW. She focused on psychology, sociology and anthropology and graduated in 1998.

Washington has played an active role at her alma mater, receiving  the “Making Impact” award from the GW Black Alumni Association in 2008. Last summer the actress was initiated as trustee for GW’s highest governing body, the Board of Trustees.
