ACP gives Hatchet honorable mentions for feature writing, ad design

Ad by Tim Gowa

The Associated Collegiate Press announced recipients of its 2010 Pacemaker Awards this weekend, and The Hatchet placed in three categories: feature writing, ad design and online.

The Hatchet’s website and Web presence received a nod in the “Large-school Newspaper” category. The ACP does not give out first, second or third places in the online category.

The feature story, which received an honorable mention, was written by former metro news editor Hadas Gold and current staff writer Tamara El Waylly. The story focused on three students who were detained in Ethiopia in 2009.

An ad promoting The Hatchet’s annual student coffee house also received an honorable mention. The ad was designed by former Managing Director Tim Gowa.

The Pacemaker awards are some of the most coveted in collegiate journalism.
