A stabbing outside of the Foggy Bottom Metro station shortly before 11 a.m. shut down all three escalators into the station, a Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman confirmed Monday. The station reopened shortly after 12 p.m.

MPD spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said an unruly subject was escorted from GW Hospital Monday morning. The subject began flailing his arms and grabbed a passerby. The passerby then pulled a knife, cut the subject and fled the area.

Crump said the suspect who had the knife managed to escape.

The unruly subject is being treated at GW Hospital.

University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said the unruly subject was a homeless man.
