Colonials to face UAB, Oregon State in non-conference schedule

The GW men’s basketball team announced its 2010-11 non-conference schedule Monday, a slate that will include road dates against UAB and Oregon State as well as home games against Harvard, Holy Cross and UNC-Wilmington. The schedule is nearly identical to one advertised in a letter that athletic director Jack Kvancz sent to season ticket holders last winter.

The Colonials will open their season with the NIT Season Tip-Off in mid-November. First round games will take place between Nov. 15 and 17, with a consolation bracket taking place at campus sites Nov. 22 and 23. Should GW advance to the championship bracket, it would finish the preseason tournament on Thanksgiving weekend with semifinal and championship games Nov. 24 and 26 in Madison Square Garden in New York City. Official dates, times and locations for the tournament will be announced at a later date.

Once the tournament is finished, the Colonials will take on UNC-Wilmington at the Smith Center Nov. 29 in the second half of a home-and-home series that began last year. GW will also once again play orange-line rivals George Mason, this time on the road Dec. 1.

The Colonials will finish the first semester with a pair of games in the district, against Navy in the BB&T Classic at the Verizon Center Dec. 5 and a home date against Towson Dec. 8, as well as a road game out west against Oregon State during finals Dec. 18.

GW is scheduled to stay busy over winter break next season, with home games Dec. 22 and 31 against East Carolina and Holy Cross and road contests at UAB Dec. 27 and at Howard Jan. 2. The Colonials will wrap up their non-conference slate with a Jan. 15 home game against Harvard.

Dates and times for the Colonials’ Atlantic 10 schedule will be released in September, the University said, although GW’s A-10 opponents have already been announced.
