Peter Konwerski: The start of your GW journey

Today is the start of our journey together – yours as a new first year student and mine as the new dean of students. Like you, I am both eager and excited to begin my new role.

After years of striving for academic success in high school, accomplishing numerous personal achievements in your student activities, and contributing extensive efforts to the community, you arrive fully prepared to embark on a new adventure in higher education.

I too have spent time preparing for this day and I am excited to begin working with you to support and help you achieve your goals.

My colleagues and I hope you fully embrace your new role as a GW student. Get involved and immerse yourself in all GW has to offer, take advantage of the variety of services in place to support your academic goals and career objectives, and be an engaged citizen in our community.

As you join the GW community, know that you have many offices, services, and systems in place to support your transition from high school senior to GW freshman. Check-out the online resources right at your fingertips, those that are only a quick call away, and know that our departments look forward to helping you when you walk in to learn about what they have to offer. In short, be in touch with me or my staff whenever you need some additional assistance.

GW students are known for their ambition and drive, so we encourage you to take full advantage of these services. Please tap into the vast array of diverse, talented and committed people who are going to be part of your GW experience. Get to know them; they relish the chance to serve and support you. While we know you may face exciting opportunities and even an occasional challenge, my staff and I are here to help right from the start.

In addition to the special people who make up the broader GW community, take time to get to know some of the individuals you are assigned to connect with including your academic adviser, your Guide to Personal Success program guide and our hall staff who will be living with you in our residence halls.

I hope we can connect soon so I can learn more about what is making your GW experience memorable. My GW journey began when I arrived on campus as a freshman more than 20 years ago, and I have never stopped learning from those who compose the Colonial community.

I hope you too find your niche in our community of scholars and welcome again to our alma mater.
