Female allegedly robbed near GW Hospital

A woman was robbed Tuesday at approximately 6 p.m. in the Eye Street Mall near Ross Hall and GW Hospital, according to a GW Infomail.

The e-mail reports that two males approached a female who “was talking on her cell phone.” One of the men “bumped into her,” while the other “grabbed her cell phone out of her hand and fled down the escalator toward the Metro.” The first man ran toward Pennsylvania Avenue. According to the e-mail, UPD Officers were unable to locate the suspects, who were described as black males between the ages of 17 and 25 and wearing dark clothing. One wore a hood and the other wore a hat.

The area has long been the focus of Metropolitan Police Department officers patrolling the area. Several violent crimes occurred over the summer around Washington Circle, an area popular among criminals because of its proximity to the Foggy Bottom Metro station, MPD Sgt. Dustin Nevel said in July.

Most of those robberies, like Tuesday’s occurred between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., the evening rush hour.
