In Brief: Baseball falls late in Philly

The GW baseball team lost 7-6 to Temple Sunday, surrendering a pair of ninth inning runs to drop the final contest of the three-game weekend set.

Junior reliever Tommy Gately took the loss for the Colonials (24-24, 12-10 A-10), retiring the first two ninth-inning batters before surrendering a single and a walk that put two men on for Temple junior Ben Flanary, who singled to drive in the game’s tying run. Owl senior Tony Jusino ended the game one batter later, driving in the game-winning run with another single.

Offensively, GW was led by senior shortstop Tom Zebroski, who went 2-for-5 Sunday and drove in two runs. Junior centerfielder Brendon Kelliher also found success at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs against the Owls.

Number Crunch: 13

The number of consecutive games the GW softball team had lost before beating Dayton 7-5 Saturday in game one of a double header. The Colonials lost game two 11-0 in five innings.
