High profile professor to speak at graduation ceremony

An official from the Department of Labor and a distinguished research professor are slated to speak at two GW medical graduation ceremonies this May.

Dr. Peter Hotez will address students from the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the school’s graduation ceremony May 15, according to a letter electronically distributed to medical students and staff early Wednesday afternoon. Hotez chairs the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Medicine at GW and is also a distinguished research professor and Walter G. Ross Professor.

In addition, Phyllis Borzi, assistant secretary for the Employee Benefits Security Administration, will speak to graduates of the School of Public Health and Health Services May 15, according to the school’s Web site.

Borzi implements private sector retirement plans, health plans and welfare benefit plans. She was previously a research professor at GW in the Department of Health Policy.

First lady Michelle Obama will speak at the University Commencement ceremony on the National Mall May 16.
