GW men’s and women’s tennis fall in road contests

Both GW tennis teams fell on the road Sunday in a pair of non-conference contests. The women’s tennis team dropped its intra-district meet Wednesday on the road at Howard, 5-2. The Colonials won the doubles point, but the Colonials didn’t fare as well in singles play, dropping all but one singles match to the Bisons. Sophomore Meg Tyner got the lone victory for the Colonials, defeating Howard’s Michele Gee 7-5, 6-4.

The men’s tennis team similarly dropped its road contest Sunday at Eastern Carolina, losing 6-1 to the Pirates. GW’s lone point came at number four singles, where Colonial Chris Kushma defeated Eastern Carolina’s Pablo Nunez Palmieri 6-3, 6-0. The Colonials were swept in all three doubles matches.

Up next for the men’s team will be a home meet against Howard and James Madison on April 9 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. The women are back on their home courts next Saturday when they’ll face Atlantic 10 conference foe Temple at 2 p.m.
