What your Facebook status says about happiness

Have you ever wondered how much your status defines you? The Facebook data team has, and in light of Valentine’s Day they composed a study on their blog comparing users’ status updates with their relationship statuses.

The team found a direct connection between being in a relationship and being happier. They used trigger emotion words to determine how positive a person’s status is and then compared it to their relationship status. Some surprises that the team found include people in open relationships being less happy than those who list themselves as widowed or “it’s complicated,” and much less happy than those who call themselves single.  Additionally they found that people who do not disclose their relationship status are 50 percent less happy than those who do.
