Power outage cancels Monday morning classes in Elliott School

Updated at 12:35 a.m.

A power outage in 1957 E St., the Elliott School building, will cancel classes scheduled for Monday before 12 p.m., according to a GW Infomail sent out Sunday at 11:52 p.m.

University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said in an e-mail Monday morning that the “water that leaked onto the electrical transformer in the basement of 1957 and 1959 E St. caused the power outage.”

All faculty and staff offices and the parking garage in 1957 E. St. will also be closed “until at least 12 p.m,” according to the Infomail.

On Sunday evening, residents of 1959 E. St. were evacuated after the transformer in the basement of their residential hall got wet, according to an e-mail sent to The Hatchet. The students in 1959 E. St. were sent to the Marvin Center until police allowed them back into the building at around 9:30 p.m.
