Man given probation for McFadden’s assault

A New York resident who pleaded guilty to assaulting an employee at McFadden’s Bar and Grill in December was sentenced Tuesday to nine months probation, a clerk for the presiding judge said.

David Casagrande, 21, was arrested in December and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after he attacked a bar employee, 23-year-old Michael Stiltz, hitting him across the face with a bottle. Stiltz suffered multiple lacerations on his forehead, nose and neck, and was treated at the GW Hospital, according to a police report.

D.C. Superior Court Judge Robert Morin sentenced Casagrande to a suspended sentence of nine months supervised probation last week.

Casagrande must complete 100 hours of community service and stay away from the complaining witness. The court also recommended alcohol testing and treatment.

In January, Casagrande pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault and one count of possessing a prohibited weapon.
