Varsity Roundup

Softball

The Colonials (5-7) won three of four games in this weekend’s Colonial Classic, beating Army twice and splitting a pair of contests with Pittsburgh. Freshman Kara Clauss was one out shy of tossing a no-hitter in the event’s final game Sunday, a 2-0 GW win.

Baseball

GW (6-7) took three out of four in a home weekend series with Fairleigh Dickinson, winning the first three contests before dropping the fourth Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Eric Cantrell and senior Pat Lehman pitched complete-game shutouts in the series’ third and fourth games, respectively.

Women’s lacrosse

The first win of the season continued to elude the Colonials (0-6) as they fell 20-10 Sunday at Virginia Tech. Sophomore Lauren Mobyed picked up three goals in the game while junior Mia Breheny added two goals and an assist.

Men’s tennis

GW split a pair of 4-3 decisions in North Carolina, losing to North Carolina-Greensboro Friday and defeating Charlotte Saturday. Sophomore Arya Vayghan won the deciding match in Saturday’s victory in a tiebreaker.

Women’s water polo

A five-goal run at the end of the game sealed a GW 11-6 home loss to Bucknell Thursday. Junior Sarah Fitch led the Colonials (2-8) with two goals while sophomore goalkeeper Charlotte Schou tied her career best with 15 saves.
