A Giant Food grocery store may be part of Square 54, according to an article in the most recent Washington Business Journal.

The Journal – which mistakenly referred to the development as part of Georgetown, not GW – cited an unnamed source familiar with the deal, who said Boston Properties Inc. is close to signing Giant Food as a tenant.

Alicia O’Neil, GW’s associate vice president for real estate, directed questions about the retail space to Jake Stroman, senior project manager at Boston Properties. Stroman, though, could not confirm if the Square 54 grocery store will be a Giant supermarket.

“We’re in discussions and negotiations with a tenant…I can’t disclose who it is,” Stroman said. A timeline had not been set concerning when the negotiations would end, he added.

Attempts to reach a spokesperson for Giant Food were unsuccessful.

Square 54, located across the street from GW Hospital, is planned to have 84,000 square feet of retail space that would include a grocery store, as well as commercial office space and apartments.
