Welcome Back Week to award inaugural ball tickets

Web Extra

Not one of the 5,200 people with a ticket to GW’s Inaugural Ball? There is still hope.

Five events during Welcome Back Week will offer students a chance to win a pair of tickets to the sold-out event on Jan. 20.

Mayra Espinoza, student involvement coordinator for the Student Activities Center, said SAC partnered with the Multicultural Student Services Center, GW Housing Programs, Mount Vernon Campus Life and Student and Academic Support Services to offer students a chance to attend the ball.

“Each one of the offices and departments that partnered with SAC donated funding to sponsor a pair of tickets per potential winner,” Espinoza said. “As a result Welcome Back Week 2009 will offer students five opportunities to win a pair of tickets to the GW Inaugural Ball.”

Espinoza said she expects an increase in turnout at events that offer ticket giveaways.

“We really want students to have more of an opportunity to create their experience and memory in the days leading to and following such a historic event,” she said, referring to the inauguration on Jan. 20.

To win one of the five pairs of tickets, students must attend one of the events and submit their name, GWid, email address and phone number.

The events which offer ticket giveaways include the men’s basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 10, the Student Organization Fair on Tuesday, Jan. 13 in the Marvin Center Ballrooms and the Fondue Friday Party at the City View Room in 1957 E Street on Jan. 16.

Other events include Wacky Wednesday’s Top Chef Competition on Jan. 14 at the Mount Vernon Pub and the GWorld Restaurants Day on Jan. 15.

The GW Inaugural Ball sold out in less than 24 hours and an additional 1,200 tickets were later added to accommodate the high demand.
