Walking Tour: Embassy Row

Graphic: Walking Tour - Embassy Row

Begin your walk at the ornate Embassy of Indonesia (1), located at 2020 Massachusetts Ave., where the previous owner of the 44-carat Hope Diamond once lived. Head northwest to Sheridan Circle and the Irish (2) and Romanian (3) embassies can be seen on the left. Further up the road is the Turkish Embassy (4). This one is particularly noticeable as it was inspired by the palaces of Istanbul.

Here you will also pass the Japanese Embassy (5) at 25th Street, which is known for its simple gardens. Cross Rock Creek Park and see the Italian Embassy (6). Now heading back toward Dupont Circle on the other side of the street, stop at the Islamic Center (7), where you will see intricate tile work and exquisite Persian carpets. Follow the street back to Sheridan Circle and make a left at R Street and a right onto 21st Street. Here you will pass the Phillips Collection (8), a well-known modern art museum.
