Romancing the president

For most couples, Valentine’s Day is a time for a romantic date, some flowers or chocolate and possibly a gift of love. But for University President Steven Knapp, this year’s Hallmark holiday is anything but romantic.

Knapp and his wife Diane will be traveling to Florida to visit alumni and friends. The married couple is scheduled to fly back on Feb. 14th.

“It isn’t really that ideal (this year) because it’s hard to take flowers on the airplane,” he said.

Knapp worked last year on Valentine’s Day when he was a provost at Johns Hopkins, too. Knapp and his wife Diane were traveling then. His solution – purchasing flowers for his wife at their hotel.

“I don’t even think you can take flowers on a plane now with the security,” Knapp said.

But there still may be a little bit of romance on the trip, as Knapp suggested, “a bag of heart shaped peanuts on the plane.”
