Just to clarify…

It’s 3:40 a.m. here in Dublin, but I would like to take a second to clarify my previous posts. Without realizing it, my first two posts about Dublin were basically talking about how much better America is than Ireland. That was not my intention at all. In fact, I had no idea I did that until someone posted a comment about it. I’m not sure why my first two posts were like that, perhaps it has something to do with the fact that blogs are easy ways to vent. People vent about grievances, not about things they like.

So, let me make it clear: I love Dublin. I love the city, the culture, the history and the people. I love looking down the River Liffey at the bridges that cross it. I love O’Connell Street and St. Stephen’s Green (although I need to get there more often). I love being able to go to a 200-year old pub and have a pint of Guinness after class. I love seeing a 70-year old man in a suit and nice hat drunk at 12 a.m. on Thursday. I love playing cards with people who have played at the same club since the early 1980’s, yet welcomed me with open arms when I walked in for the first time and have adopted me as their own.

And I love the attitudes of Irishmen towards the English, a topic that deserves its own post…coming Monday.
