Drunk driver plows through fence near GW Hospital

A drunk driver crashed into the pedestrian mall near the Foggy Bottom Metro station early Friday morning, narrowly missing a large statue of George Washington.

No one was hurt in the incident, and the driver was arrested for driving under the influence, according to a police report. The driver was 27-year-old Song Yoo, a GW student.

“I’m really sorry about that,” Yoo said when reached by phone. He declined further comment.

Yoo told police he was following his car’s navigation system and failed to stop at the intersection on 23rd Street. He had been traveling west on I Street toward the area.

The grey Infiniti SUV crossed the sidewalk and came to rest in a raised flowerbed after damaging large cement blocks and knocking over a section of metal fence.

The Metropolitain Police Department arrived on the scene and arrested Yoo after determining he was intoxicated.
