Men’s Soccer

After leading 3-2 at halftime, the GW men’s soccer (5-4-0) team lost 4-3 to Coastal Carolina University Friday in Conway, S.C. Sophomore Erik Perez-Segnini scored his fifth goal for the Colonials and senior Abimbola Pedro had his team-leading sixth assist. GW next plays at Georgetown Tuesday.

Men’s Water Polo

GW’s men’s water polo team went 1-2 this weekend, losing two games to top 20 teams and beating unranked Fresno Pacific. The Colonials played a game against West Valley College Sunday, but the match ended after press time. After a promising start, GW is 2-7 in its last nine games heading into a match against Navy Wednesday at Smith Center.

Swimming

The men’s and women’s swim team started their season with a third place (out of five) and fourth place (out of four) finish, respectively, at the Potomac Relays held at American University. Look in Thursday’s Hatchet for a recap of the event and a season preview.

Volleyball

The volleyball team (10-10, 2-2 A-10) remained .500 after going 1-1 over the weekend. GW beat Morgan State 3-1 in Baltimore Thursday but lost 3-0 to Long Island University Friday at Smith Center. Senior Janine Brown led the Colonials with 12 kills against Long Island.

Men’s Cross Country

Taking on one of the toughest courses in the country, GW’s men’s cross country team finished third out of six Friday at the Monmouth Invitational. Junior Chris Pisano finished fourth to lead GW, but teammates also finished fourth, fifth, sixth and eighth overall.
