The Pulse: Do you care being told where to spend your dining dollars?

In addition to another re-do of the J Street dining area this year, dining policies for GW freshmen and sophomores have also changed. Now these underclassmen must spend $1,400 and $500 of their Colonial Cash, respectively, at specified eateries in J Street, WOW Caf? and Wingery, Duques or on Mount Vernon.

The Hatchet posed the question to students:

Do you care being told where to spend your dining dollars?

“It sucks…I won’t spend all my money [at the approved locations] unless I force myself to.”
-Danielle Weinstein, Freshman

“I think this is a great facility, but it is a high amount to require students to spend. There should be some kind of chance to opt out at least.”
-Helen Worka, First-Year Grad Student

“I keep kosher so it’s hard to me to eat at J Street…I hoped they would include the Hillel [Kosher Caf?].”
-Shira Siegal, Freshman

“It seems like the University is really catering to student needs this year. It started out a little rough, but I think there are better options this year.”
-Ryan Dring, Sophomore

“I get that they want more business, but $700 [a semester] is a lot of money.”
-Caitlin O’Neill, Freshman
