Report: Pops not starting in NBA

Former GW standout Pops Mensah-Bonsu will not start the season with the Dallas Mavericks, the team’s general manager told the London Times.

Mensah-Bonsu was signed by the squad during summer league games and was set back by a cold in September.

“He’s got a very bright future; he’s a great kid with tremendous upside,” President of Basketball Operations Donn Nelson told the British paper. “He needs to work on his consistency, especially with his outside shot, but he can rebound, block shots and run with the best of them. He needs seasoning and experience, and our hope is to get him playing experience in the NBDL (National Development Basketball League) and, as he grows, we will evaluate him and call him up as needed.”
