New spirit event to replace Colonials Invasion

A pep event that will replace Colonials Invasion will take place Nov. 8 in Kogan Plaza, a GW official said.

Nicole Maccione-Early, the director of the spirit program, said many of the details are not finalized, but a preseason celebratory event will take place in the evening and will include members of the GW men’s and women’s basketball teams.

“Our goal is for it to be a fun-filled evening event,” Maccione-Early said. “A lot of student organizations are involved and it’s an event we think is going to be really unique.” The event will cost the University nearly $10,000, she added.

The University has been exploring possibilities for a preseason event since it canceled GW’s annual Midnight Madness-type pep event, Colonials Invasion, in the wake of Student and Academic Support Services budget cuts.

The Spirit department is working with the GW Housing program, Program Board and the Colonial Army to plan the event.
