$5 – $10 – $20: An entertainment guide for the cash-strapped college student

If you have $5

Buy a comic book in the spirit of the free, three-day International Comic Arts Festival, starting Thursday and running through Saturday. Held at the Library of Congress at 10 First Street, S.E., the event is sure to entertain. Discussions and exhibits on various aspects of the art form will take place, so come on down if you take your fun seriously. Be warned, though: we mean “seriously.” This is an academic conference, so come if your interest runs more toward the cerebral and less toward following those crazy “Family Circus” kids.

If you have $10

Grab your costume from the closet, and get in the spirit of Halloween a few weeks early. On Wednesday, go to the Farragut West Metro Station to begin Washington’s Most Haunted Houses Tour. Each walk will last around 2 hours, during which time you will see the District’s most ghostly abodes. You’ll have to drop an extra five bucks if you want to see the Octagon House, ostensibly the most haunted building in the city.

If you have $20

Go to 9:30 Club on Sunday evening at 6 to catch Jenny Lewis’ early set. The Rilo Kiley front-woman is touring with her solo debut “Rabbit Fur Coat.” Whereas the Kiley excels at confessional folk pop gems, Lewis’ solo effort is an exploration of her country influences. Rumor has it that she’ll be performing the Traveling Wilburys’ “Handle Me With Care” on this tour, which she’s previously neglected to do live, but even if she doesn’t, she’s got the pipes to make anything sound spectacular, so head down to U Street for a tour of the South via Los Angeles.
