Hippodrome to be closed during construction of Wingery

The Hippodrome will be closed starting Monday due to construction on the WOW Caf? and Wingery.

The delayed food venue, which was originally scheduled to open by Sept. 5, is now slated to begin service Nov. 6, said Nancy Haaga, director of Campus Support Services. She said the bowling alley should remain open, but that the television and lounge area on the fifth floor of the Marvin Center will be off-limits until construction is over.

“The Hippodrome is going to be closed because they are going to start widespread demolition out into the seating area,” Haaga said in a telephone interview Wednesday afternoon. WOW, a Southwest-style restaurant serving wings, hamburgers, wraps and salads, will offer DirecTV and XM Satellite Radio at individual tables and booths.

Haaga said construction is scheduled to finish at the end of October, and Sodexho – the University’s food-service provider – will take over the facility for last touches on the restaurant and seating area.

Michael Peller, managing director of the Marvin Center, told The Hatchet last week that the Hippodrome’s pool tables are being moved to the arcade area and that there will no longer be video games.
