Varsity Roundup

Volleyball

The volleyball team finished third out of four teams at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va., Sept. 7-8. Virginia Tech (6-3) and Appalachian State (5-4) swept the Colonials before GW beat Liberty (0-7) 3-0. Senior Juliene McLaughlin had 19 kills in the win and 18 kills against the Hokies. GW (7-2) next plays at the Black and Gold Challenge, hosted by Wake Forest University, in Winston-Salem, N.C., Sept. 15-16.

Water Polo

Senior John Hornberger was named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division, Eastern Region Co-Player of the Week. The Colonials lost to #8 Pacific12-7 and then defeated Iona 13-6 at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, NJ.

Cross Country

Graduate student Kate Neeper finished fourth in a field of 105 runners, while senior Daniel Morgan and junior Joe Altenau each placed in the top ten out of 91 runners at the Towson Invitational on Sept. 9. Morgan was seventh and Altenau finished tenth.

Women’s Soccer

The GW women’s soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision at cross town rival Georgetown Sunday afternoon. The Colonials (4-2-1) were dominated 14-5 in shots and 8-1 in shots on goal. They next face James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va., Thursday.
