The women’s soccer team posted two wins at the Thundering Herd Nike Invitational, hosted by Marshall University Sept. 1-3. Junior Jordan Sweeney scored both goals off the bench for GW (3-1) in a 2-0 win over Marshall Friday, while sophomore Keara Mehlert, assisted by classmate Stephanie Covello, tallied the Colonials’ only score during a 1-0 win over Morehead State Sunday. The game was knotted until Mehlert knocked in the goal with four and a half minutes remaining in regulation. Sophomore goalie Amie Kern now has three shutouts on the season. The squad plays its home opener Wednesday at 3 p.m. against D.C. rival Howard at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex.
