Common to perform at Fall Fest

Hip-hop artist Common will headline the annual Fall Fest concert September 9, said Program Board’s Concerts Chair Zach Pentel.

Common has toured with rapper Kanye West, a headliner of Spring Fling in 2004. Last year’s Fall Fest main act was Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

The annual Program Board-sponsored festival caps off Welcome Week activities. This year’s Welcome Week will include the second appearance of Club G22. The University will transform the floor of the Smith Center into a nightclub atmosphere with a red carpet, lights and a live disc jockey. This year’s G22 will be on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m.

University President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs Donald Lehman will officially kick off the school year at the Freshman Convocation Monday. The event will be Trachtenberg’s final Freshman Convocation as University President before he steps down in July 2007.

Also returning from last year is the Residence Hall Association-sponsored Target Run on Wednesday, Sept. 6. Buses will leave from Kogan Plaza and the Mount Vernon Campus Quad and take students to a Target store between 6 and 10 p.m.

“It’s all about getting settled in and having a good week,” said Debra Ruth Berger, coordinator for student involvement for the Student Activities Center.
