Winners & Losers

Had a bad week? Try losing your legal right to exist (think Coggins’). Here it is, The Hatchet’s Winners & Losers summer edition:

Winner: Pre-freshmen
School hasn’t even started yet and you are living it up in D.C., at least for a few days. Colonial Inauguration is a smorgasbord of free food, borderline-disturbing dances by the Colonial Cabinet and even a laser light show. Woo hoo!

Winner: SMPA
The School of Media and Public Affairs finally has a director. The search was long and there were some missteps along the way, but now Lee Huebner has the chance to put that in the past and focus on strengthening SMPA’s program.

Loser: Coggins’
Ivory Tower’s beloved sandwich shop lost its battle with Potbelly. On the flip side, GW students might be the winners, depending on whether they preferred Coggins’ or Potbelly.

Loser: GW Basketball
Rising star Danilo “J.R.” Pinnock’s decision to enter and stay in the NBA draft a year early doesn’t bode well for GW’s men’s basketball team. Maybe Coach Karl Hobbs’ recruits can pick up the slack after Pinnock’s departure.
