Thorpe continues push to put condoms in residence halls

Student Association President Lamar Thorpe has made the “Condoms in Residence Halls” program one of his main undertakings this summer as he begins his term.

In addition to meeting with student leaders and University officials at GW, Thorpe, a senior, has also met with students who have initiated a similar program at Georgetown University.

In the last meeting of the SA senate-elect, the senate did not confirm three of Thorpe’s nominees for SA office, including sophomore Peter Fu, sophomore Hayley Haldeman and senior Nick D’Addario. Thorpe has appointed the failed nominees as acting vice presidents for the summer and plans to bring them forth for reconsideration by the rules committee in the fall. Chair of the rules committee, junior Chris Rotella (CCAS-U), said the three nominees failed because they were not qualified.

Thorpe said that Haldeman, D’Addario and Fu have been aiding him with the search for a new University president and the condom program among other projects.

“They have been working hard every day this summer,” Thorpe added.

Thorpe is currently in the process of creating a search committee to find a student to replace the vacancy in the student court.
