We didn’t report on this in tomorrow’s paper but I decided it was important enough to throw on here. After hearing and reading speculation that George Mason was the fourth team in the Wooden Classic, I put a call in to Jack Kvancz. He said he hadn’t heard anything definite yet. They would have no reason to call him because GW would not be playing Mason, Kvancz said. He said it wouldn’t surprise him if Mason would play in a tournament like that. Also, an extremely reliable source told me that GMU athletic director Tom O’Connor said he has not signed any contracts but has been in contact with a lot of different tournaments.

Someone tried to make the argument today that GW vs. UCLA should be the headlining game. My response was “are you out of your mind?” GW lost in the second round. Mason and UCLA BOTH made the Final Four! Some people….

In Thursday’s Washington Post, Dan Steinberg wrote about GMU coach Jim Larranaga getting a contract extension. Look toward the bottom of the story to see some of the OOC games they’ve scheduled.
