Winning streak and upcoming contests

With Saturday’s win, the Colonials extended their winning streak to eight games, the highest among ranked teams.

The Colonials’ record is 14 games in 1935-36, a season that ended with a 16-3 record.

To keep the streak alive, GW will need to top Xavier at the Cintas Center, where the Colonials have never won.

GW has not beaten Xavier in the regular season in Ohio since Feb. 26, 1996.

Xavier in the Smith Center

For GW’s away game against Xavier on Thursday, the GW spirit department is hosting a viewing of the game on the scoreboard monitors in the Smith Center.

The game, which will be shown on ESPN2, begins at 7 p.m.

The festivities will be complemented with competitions, with the intent to establish an atmosphere similar to a home game.

A-10 co-player of the week

Senior Pops Mensah-Bonsu was named Atlantic 10 co-player of the week.

He shared the award, the third of his career, with Mardy Collins of Temple, whose team beat Maryland this past weekend.

Mensah-Bonsu averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds in the last two games.

New TV deal for A-10 with ESPNU

The Atlantic 10 has recently announced that beginning with the 2006-2007 season, ESPNU will offer men’s and women’s A-10 coverage.

The deal ensures that ESPN and ESPN2 will remain the primary rights-holders to the conference’s broadcasts, but that ESPNU will offer coverage of six men’s and one women’s game annually.

ESPN or ESPN2 will televise the conference championships, and some A-10 contests may be broadcast on ABC.
