College students can never resist free food, which is why the Benjamin Franklin Birthday Celebration at the Smithsonian Museum of American History is not to be missed. Celebrate the inventor and scientist’s accomplishments with special exhibits and free cake on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

You can meringue and do the cha-cha with CityDance this weekend – or tap, hip-hop and flamenco your cares away. This wraps up the dance studio’s week of free classes, which also include yoga and Pilates, among others. The classes will be held at the Strathmore Music Center, and you can call 301-581-5204 for the schedule.

Finally, if you’re feeling a little anxious about the start of the semester, remember: things could be worse. Giant monsters could invade. Or at least, that’s what artist Luis Silva hopes in his exhibit “Lovely Monsters” at G Fine Art. His giant fabric sculptures are quirky and funny, not frightening. Check them out for free this weekend only, at 1515 14th St. N.W.
