WEB UPDATE: Struggling Orioles put alumnus in the hot seat

Posted Thursday, Aug. 4, 7:15 p.m. One-time GW baseball player Sam Perlozzo has been named interim manager of the Baltimore Orioles after owner Peter Angelos relieved skipper Lee Mazzilli of his duties Wednesday. Perlozzo is the first GW alumnus to manage a major league team.

Perlozzo graduated from GW in 1973 and played for both the Minnesota Twins and San Diego Padres. He has been the bench coach of the Orioles for the last five seasons.

During Perlozzo’s junior season at GW he was the team’s most valuable player and was elected to the Colonials Hall of Fame in 1986
