M. Basketball

* Coach Karl Hobbs was selected to serve as a court coach at the 2005 USA Men’s World University Game Team Trials, held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., from July 29 to July 31. Texas A&M head coach Billy Gillispie will join Hobbs.

* According to several reports, former University of New Hampshire coach Phil Rowe will join the GW men’s basketball staff as an assistant coach, filling the void that Steve Pikiell left. Rowe led the Wildcats to a 45-125 record in his six seasons at the helm of the program.

* ESPN reports that assistant men’s basketball coach Darrell Brooks is a favorite for the head coaching post at Howard University. Attempts to contact Hobbs or his staff were unsuccessful

Junior Brian Carroll was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Student-Athlete of the Year in men’s golf. In addition to seven top-10 finishes and a team-low stroke average (74.59), Carroll maintains a 3.54 GPA while majoring in finance. Teammate Andrew Gallo, a junior, also was named to the Academic All-Conference team.
